Care & Handling of your ET2000 Roll

The flexo technology revolution began in 1989 with the introduction of the Harper Echocel Spectrum 60™ laser anilox. This anilox roll surface dramatically advanced flexo printing capabilities.

Now, after seven years of research and testing, the revolution continues with the release of the Echocel ET2000™. This advanced version of the Echocel Spectrum 60 contains improvements to an already remarkable surface technology, along with additional magnificent benefits.

Prepare to experience today’s most advanced anilox technology available!

Echocel ET2000 BENEFITS:

Twice the Accuracy!

Echocel ET2000 laser engraved anilox rolls are twice as accurate in reproduction capability due to our new measurement system technology called Echotopography™. This measurement system uses reflected light to gather height information of microscopic surface patterns with accuracy as fine as 10 nanometers. This advanced technology allows Harper to maintain the tightest manufacturing tolerances in the industry.

With over one million dollars invested, we now bring Echotopography to you as our standard measurement system on every Echocel ET2000 roll. You’ll experience the benefits in every Echocel ET2000 roll, and at no additional cost.

Easier to Clean Because It Rarely, if Ever, Plugs on Press!

Our EchoPlasma™ Ceramic Coating is less than 2% porous. Combined with our EchoLasing™ fusion techniques used during engraving, you get a surface smoothness with unmatched release properties. Others have tried to obtain these release characteristics by adding a coating after engraving, but this fusion technology is exclusive to your Harper Echocel ET2000 rolls.

Color Density Predictability Unlike Ever Before!

With the introduction of Echocel ET2000 system upgrades, you get added benefits on press. This is the first anilox surface technology that works in correlation to the color strength or densities you desire. For instance, if your current Echocel™ roll is printing too light or too heavy by 10% for a certain job, you can get a reconditioned or new one with an adjusted volume that we guarantee will meet your color target!

The revolution continues with Echocel ET2000. This new technology will launch your flexographic print reproduction and prepress predictability to new heights.

2 Critical Keys to The Design of Echocel ET2000™ Anilox Rolls:

Key #1: Engineered Pattern Design – Non-Polished Cell Walls
Harper’s 60° hexagon pattern remains a world standard since its introduction in 1989. Engineered as a vital component of optimum flexographic print reproduction, it is a critical key to the Echocel ET2000 ink transfer system. The 60° hexagon surface geometry adds approximately 15% more cells per square inch over other cell patters. This allows us to design cells that are 15% more shallow while still delivering the same amount of ink and providing better ink release and easier cleaning.

Our surface engineers recognize that the relationship between cell walls and cell openings also effects the quality and quantity of ink film transferred. Our research proves that cell walls at 6% to 14% of cell openings (depending on line screen) provide a "litho like" ink film transfer. No other anilox manufacturer incorporates this cell opening to wall ratio into their surface geometry. This controlled ink film results in quick and easy impression adjustments for optimum color and print fidelity.

Surface Pattern Geometry

Easier and faster impression adjustments

Excellence ink release

Higher achievable densities in process printing

A pure "litho like" ink film

Smoother and cleaner solids, cleaner reverses, and sharper edges for bar codes

Key #2: Quality Plasma-Flame-Sprayed, Ceramic Chrome-Oxide Coating

A long-term benefit of Echocel technology is the foundation coating of the roll in which the final surface is laser engraved. Harper pioneered success with plasma-flame-sprayed ceramic coatings for anilox surfaces over 28 years ago, with their first roll surface in 1973. By making an otherwise crude coating technology highly productive for anilox roll, the result is maximum hardness of 1250+ Vickers and a 99% dense coating with every roll.

The benefit of the hardness and virtually porosity free coating is longer performance life and excellent release properties. These translate into print benefits of color consistency over many years of service life and easier cleaning maintenance for your press crews.

Your Benefit:

Long life & optimum wet ink film delivery to the printing plate!

  • Consistent Color from Roll to Roll

  • Easier to Clean

  • Rarely, if Ever, Plugs on Press

  • Excellent Hardness Properties

  • Uniform Ink Release Across Your Web

2 Critical Facts When Choosing Your Anilox Technology:

Fact #1: You print with a wet and fluid film of ink
This concept is important to remember when selecting anilox rolls. In essence, the objective is to print with precisely delivered wet ink films with micron accuracy!

For a moment, forget about anilox roll line screens and volumes. Use the following chart to convert your anilox roll volumes (in ETVs) to theoretical ink film thickness’.

Thinking this way will better enable you to understand the importance of Echocel ET2000’s surface design characteristics. These anilox rolls will give you the highest level of ink film thickness accuracy in the world. Color control demands it and Echocel ET2000’s technology delivers it!

Our specifications for engraving the Echocel ET2000 must be extremely accurate because your ink films are measured in microns.

Fact #2: Thinner Ink Films Print Better

Thinner films of wet ink are easier to control, print sharper graphics and increase your graphic reproduction ability. And the technology to achieve thinner ink films is quickly being adopted throughout the world.

The entire manufacturing process of Echocel ET2000 rolls is designed to enable you to run with the thinnest ink films possible. Our engineered pattern design and fusion sealed cells give you the ability to run stronger and higher quality inks, reduce ink consumption, and improve your print quality in the process.

And, if you run solvent based inks, emission reductions are an added plus to running thinner ink films. Depending on the application, ink film thickness "reduction" with this Echocel ET2000 surface technology can be as much as 50%!

Reduce Ink Film Thickness = Less Dot Grain

Shown above is a reduction in ink film thickness on the tips of process plate dots.
Thinner ink films spread less when printed, resulting in less dot gain.
