Frequently Asked Questions:
Why proof inks and what are the advantages of using a
proofer?
A)Correlation between the pre-press area and the press,
saving valuable press time.
B)Savings not just in time, but materials especially ink and substrate.
C)It gives you the availability to restock ink after it has been used on press
and use it again for the same job or another job with the same PMS color.
D)It is the perfect lab room tool. It is very easy to clean, operate, does not
have too many moving parts and it is very easy to maintain.
If I have a Junior Proofer and want to upgrade to a
Phantom proofer, can I still use the anilox rolls on the PhantomT proofer?
The anilox rolls are interchangeable. You can use the same
rolls for either the Echocel Junior or the Phantom Proofer Assembly.
Do you refurbish or recondition proofer anilox rolls?
We can, however the cost of reconditioning a proofer roll
is usually higher than just getting a new anilox roll.
Can I send my proofer to HarperScientific for repair?
Yes, we recommend you send us your proofer assembly if you
are having problems or are not getting a consistent drawdown. We will run a
full evaluation on the assembly to determine the cause of the problem.
Do the Rubber Rolls ever go bad?
Yes, rubber ages and the hardness increases over time also the surface glazes
with time. Both of these issues will change the transfer rate and affect the
density. Example once a roll hits 55 Durometer it will transfer 12% to 14% less
density with solvent inks than a 45 Durometer roll.
Can I just drop the Phantom into a pail of cleaner and
leave it soak?
NO, even though the unit is anodized and all the hardware is stainless steel we
do not recommend soaking the unit. Follow the cleaning instructions and the
unit will last a long time.
Does micro-foam in water based ink cause issues proofing?
Yes, the ink must be free of foam or it will give you inconsistent draw downs.
