Recent Graduate Builds on Love of Flexo at Harper

Charlotte, N.C., May 17, 2005 – Anilox roll supplier Harper Corporation of America is proud to announce that Laurie Tracey, 2005 graduate of Appalachian State University (ASU) and member of the team which took second place in the 2005 Harper Flexo College of the Year competition, is interning with the company this summer.

During a 16-week period, Tracey is working as a lab technician intern in Harper’s GraphicSolutions™ Division, where she is processing anilox roll audits, assembling press fingerprint information and taking responsibility for the Narrow Web Banded Roll Trials Program.

“By joining Harper I intend to broaden my experience in flexo and plan for a career in this exciting field,” said Tracey, whose participation in ASU’s “Everybody Needs Flexography” submission to the 2005 Harper Flexo College of the Year competition won her recognition at the 2005 FTA Forum.

“I was one of nine ASU students to participate in the FTA Forum in Orlando, and I have to say that this was one of my most valuable college experiences. It opened my eyes to an exciting career path, and gave me an opportunity to talk with those already involved in the industry. I certainly look forward to attending the forum again next year,” she said.

Tracey studied graphic design at Central Piedmont Community College’s Harper Campus in Charlotte, N.C., in 2002-2003, and then transferred to ASU in Boone, N.C. She enrolled in the school’s graphic arts and imaging technology program, where she was first introduced to flexography, and later received her bachelor’s degree in May 2005.

A highly motivated student, Tracey took advantage of the school’s advanced flexography course offerings, as well as those in prepress, print production and other courses that have provided her with a critical and sound foundation for a career in flexography. Her 3.5 GPA earned Tracey a spot on the Dean’s List at ASU, and hard work for the Graphic Arts Students Association won her election to the position of Secretary/Treasurer of the organization.
