CPCC and Harper Corporation Join Forces to
Provide Continuing Education for the Flexo Industry
Charlotte, N.C., September 28, 2006 - In a joint
announcement, Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) and global anilox
supplier Harper Corporation of America announced an aggressive continuing
education program for the flexographic industry. According to Dr. Tony Zeiss,
president of CPCC, and Margaret Harper Kluttz, president of Harper Corporation,
the program will be initiated with the creation of a new position, that of a
full-time flexo education administrator for the college.
The administrator will work with Harper's GraphicSolutions™ Division to develop,
plan, implement and market a variety of subjects, including: color management,
graphic design guidelines, prepress, plates, inks, substrate, simplifying
anilox roll requirements, press operation, flexo basics, and enhanced process
printing. Seminars will normally run from one to three days. A minimal fee will
cover costs.
Harper's highly successful series of "Flexo Solutions Tour" road shows have
shown the need for an expanded flexographic educational program at the
professional level. Attendance at each of the seven 2006 road shows, held at
colleges throughout the U.S., averaged 72 participants; up 50% from 2005.
According to Alexander James, technical manager of the eastern division of
Harper GraphicSolutions, "We are excited to work with the CPCC staff to enhance
the educational program and contribute to continuing education in the
flexographic industry." He added, "We intend to use the Harper Campus at CPCC,
which is home to the Harper National Flexographic Center, and host to the
annual International Phoenix Challenge High School Flexo Competition."
The campus has a terraced auditorium that will seat 75. Larger seminars will
take place at Central Piedmont Community College's Harris Conference Center,
located approximately eight miles from the campus.
